Gymnastics is a year-round sport that requires hard work, determination, commitment and perseverance. In terms of progress and skill development, there is no substitute for putting in the time in the gym with a disciplined, strict schedule.
There is no doubt that participation in any competitive sport requires a significant amount of time, commitment, and effort. For the athlete it means dedicating much of their after-school time to the sport they love! For parents, it involves some sacrifice in the way of time, effort and money to provide their child much needed support.
Our competitive programs range from 3hrs to 20hrs per week. Tryouts are held in the spring, with the season starting in July each year. Tryout dates are posted on our social media and website in early spring.
Assessments can be booked at request if you have missed the tryout date.
The Aerials Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) program is designed for gymnasts who have demonstrated exceptional talent and competitive drive. Our competitive program consists of 3 streams WAG 1 (ADP), WAG 2 (CCP), WAG 3 (Xcel) (descriptions below). Athletes are placed in the program that will allow them to best develop based on individual skill level and goals. When progressing through levels a higher demand for difficulty is required and with that comes a higher time commitment. Coaches will determine an appropriate training schedule dependent on the age, skill, and level of each gymnast. SGA athletes are committed to the sport of gymnastics and require hard work, discipline and commitment to represent Aerials at a competitive level.
ADP- Aerials Developmental Program
The purpose of the Aerials Developmental Program is to improve strength, speed, power, endurance, flexibility and skill. This will build a strong foundation and prepare the athlete physically and mentally to transition them into the artistic competitive stream. This program will include 3 in house testing events throughout the year which will allow us to track athlete’s individual progress. This will also allow the athletes to experience the pressure of an evaluation in a familiar setting within the comfort of their own facility. Athletes will not be ranked against each other at testing events, the goal is to improve at each testing.
Age range: 4-10 years
Hour range: 6-16 hours per week
Compulsory and Optional Levels
The WAG 2 program comes with the belief that all athletes must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The gymnasts are challenged through progressive, yet responsible development of technique-based skills and routines. As the levels advance the focusing shifts to developing complex and advanced technical skills while maintaining a high level of physical fitness Gymnasts progress to the next level when requirements in the desired level are mastered. Athletes will compete at invitational meets and at Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) sanctioned events representing SGA.
In addition, athletes have opportunities to compete at Compulsory or Provincial Championships, and if in the appropriate level they may have opportunity to qualify for events including Alberta Winter Games Team trials, Provincial Championships, Western Canadian Championships and/or Canadian National Championships.

Xcel
This program is designed to accommodate a variety of abilities and commitment levels. Athletes in the WAG 3 program will compete optional routines that give coaches and athletes flexibility when it comes to skills and choreography. This program is a perfect fit for those gymnasts who have other commitments, limiting the hours and travel they can commit to gymnastics. This is a great option to train competitively in our WAG program and represent Aerials locally at invitational competitions.
